My backup lights no longer go off when shifting out of reverse, (manual transmission). I have noted on the last two trips, they seem okay when I start up cold but when I shut down hot, they are malfunctioning again. The switch and linkage appear okay. With the switch being so close to the exhaust, I was wondering if heat could be a factor in making it malfunction. In any case, I would like to disconnect it temporarily and I located the wiring connector up at the firewall, but I can't get the X%O# thing disconnected. What is the secret to getting that sonovabuck connector apart??
COME ON SOMEONE. ISN'T THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN TELL ME WHAT THE SECRET IS TO SEPARATING THE MALE/FEMALE CONNECTOR LOCATED AT THE FIREWALL. I THINK I HAVE USED ENOUGH FORCE TO DISCONNECT THIS THING, UNLESS THERE IS SOME METHOD I DON'T KNOW ABOUT. I HATE TO CUT WIRES.

Reason: HELP!!!
The connector should just unplug? If I remember they are a green and pink wire? It's a simple circuit 12v throught the connector to the switch, closethe switch and 12v to the lights. I'm guessing the switch is your problem. I've had fit problems on some 4 speeds with the exhaust pipes. You would have to mod the bracket or run a remote BU light switch.

Thanks Gary. After looking farther, I think the little rod from the switch to the linkagae may not be bent properly. I have to test drive yet to see if I have fixed it.
Bill disconnect the wire connector on the firewall going to the switch. Use a ohmeter across the terminals and see if you have continuity operating the gear in/out of reverse.
