Default Intake manifold install question?

I just got an Edelbrock EPS manifold for my '76. What is the heat riser? Do I need a gasket kit that blocks this or keeps it open? I have an Edelbrock Performer carb and no EGR.

the heat riser is a crossover of one side of the engine to the other going under the intake. It is used to warm up the intake for cold running conditions. It helps mostly on start up. If you don't do a lot of cold weather driving or don't mind the ill performace of a carb until the engine has a chance to fully warm up by all means block off the heat riser. It will keep the intake cooler which will give you a little more power.

Fel-Pro makes a gasket that has the crossover blocked. That's what I used. But 442Olds is correct, it will run like crap till it gets fully warmed up. I believe it's #1204.
