ok guys, need some help. im still building this 383, its painted and i got the headers on just for looks. but my question is, i seem to remember something about drilling a hole behind the cam gear and above the cam for extra oiling and longer life. where do i drill this hole??? certainly not in the oil galley plug. above this or below? and what size? im sure its tiny. any help is greatly appreciated.

You can either drill it in the thrust surface or drill a hole in the center gallery plug and install that one (a screw in plug, not the hammer in stock types, you must tap the block to use those)

Drill a hole about .030" in diameter.

The oil gallery that runs down the center of the lifter valley terminates front and rear in the timing chain and flywheel valleys respectively. I drill a .03125 (thats like 1/32" ) hole in the center of the pipe plug at the front to lubricate the timing chain and torrington bearing.

The pipe plug is fine...if you are still using a press in plug - tap it out and use a pipe plug....in fact the pipe plug is a much better location than drilling the block. IMO - YMMV
