I don't know what to think about him, all that history I have to respect (especially being only 20 myself) but that guy really seems like an idiot sometimes. I read "Cannonball!" and he really comes off as a jerk to me. Great book though, awesome stories.

He needs to be retired. He was good in his day (the 50's / 60's) but does not have a clue about good cars today. His opinion of a good car is a stock Jag XKE or some other British crap that spends more time in a garage than on the street.
It's been a while since I read Cannonball, but if I remember correctly he was whining about not winning the race in the later years and how it had to stop because "everything was changing". Guess the world moves a little too fast for him. Ditto the jag comment.
The commentary on Barrett-Jackson really borders on stupidity, but Brock Yates did say something my wife and I actually laughed at. When that green VW Hippy Bus went across and they mentioned it was driven by Ashton Kutcher he said "well, that should add $30.00 or $40.00 to the price".

I agree most of the commentary borders on insane stupidly.
I'm not big on Car and Driver anyway. That sort of magazine has too many minivan and family sedan comparos Give me HotRod, Racecar Engineering, and the occassional Corvette magazine!

Sent the idiot this email, as I figured no response
Brock!
I know this will never make the air but I'm absolutely disgusted over your comments on the "clone" cars and specifically "put in in the local trader & let the buyer beware". This mentality is EXACTLY the cancer which plagues our hobby and takes advantage of well-intentioned collectors. Moreover, this is EXACTLY the mentality which is responsible for more 1967 427 435hp Corvettes being on the road now then were actually produced
They were debating the distinction in meaning between the term "clone" and "recreation" (I consider the term "recreation" a new euphemism for the same thing), and to his credit, one of the talking heads said, "Just call them all fakes" !!
I found some of his comments quite annoying at times - especially when he made mistakes on some of the different cars but in his defense, there is a lot to know & not a lot of time to research while the cars whiz by. As a car "expert", he should have known some of these things cold but in general, I thought the announcers did a pretty good job. They're human like all of us & everone has their likes & dislikes. I enjoyed listening to them squabble about the different cars but I did disllike the way they dissed the Countach. I always loved that car & they were really harsh about it...
