Not bagging on you, but there are way too many egos here anyway. Sounded like he was just talking about the experience. You have a nice Pro Street type Vette. Be happy with it and know that you have plenty of fans. No need to go out of your way to pee on this guys campfire.
Who bagged on anyone. I stated all along that I liked his car,but did not agree on his engine output. You cannot make that kind of power with a .550 lift or smaller cam,no matter how many superchargers. As far as my car .Most pro street cars dont run that well. Find one that runs 7s and still looks half way good. They are few and far between.Im suppose to be impressed that someone spent 250thou on a car that sold for what he should of had in it.No.Im more impressed that he makes the money he does.I never attacked him personally.Only disagreed with his engine capabilities. If I may say I know engines BB chevys mostly and there is a huge diff between the under 1000hp level and over 1000hp level. That engine is realistically at 8to900hp with the valvetrain that I was told is in it.Still impressive but not 1360.It doesnt matter anyway.I will quit posting on merlin threads.

I still think the car should have been bought, shipped to Waterloo for a year or two, and been completely Norvalized...now THAT'S a vette I'd like to see
And now a word from the peanut gallery:
Been here a few yrs and watched this car grow up. I'm far from understanding most of the technical stuff involved in it's build, but I do marvel at the design, engineering, fabrication, and mechanical skills it took to make this vision a reality.
"Man"... will always have visions...success & failier...supporters & critics. The spirit of creation was burning in Steve and he followed his vision. For his fortitude and his creation...I applaud him.

I was dissappointed that the car didn't bring more also. I bet most of the people there didn't have a clue about the car or what it represented. I also think it may have brought more earlier in the auction, a friend of mine is there, he missed merlin while eating dinner, what a bummer. How about Jeg's going to bat for a worthy cause, I think their motors and gift certificates brought 45,000$ wonder if B/J got 8% or more of that?
I got to watch or listen to most of the auction. Cars that brought high amounts of money were typically collectable cars that were restored to a new or better than new factory condition.
This car was a highly modified car. Out of the modified cars, this one did quite well in regards to the selling price. Can anyone show a link where any other 74 vette sold for more? Steve has already stated that he overpaid to have it done. I believe he opened a crack for getting a modified vette's price up in the range of NCRS vettes. It would nice to see other modified rubber bumper vettes selling for over $50k. That would set the tone for modifying these low horsepower cars.
I think "Merlin" is an awsome car. Having been around custom cars for years, you realize when building them, that the money you put into it, is never going to come back out. A buddy of mine built a full custom S10, won every show he entered with it, had over $40k into it, and did all the work himself. When he sold it, he got a check for like $6k, thats just the way it is with customs. Once you start serious modding, the market size decreases, and more mods, smaller market. Thats just the price you have to pay for building YOUR car, rather than a car for the masses.
Anyway, "Merlin" is one of the few C3's I wouldn't mind having...the other is the Vette from Corvette Summer, and I bet that one really makes you guys squirm.

Mike, try 99.999% of the Pro-Street cars haven't/don't go to the track(even for just one night to see what'll do). Whenever I see these cars at (parking lot) shows and/or cruise-ins I'll always ask "what does it do in the 1/4 ??" and they reply "Oh,I haven't gone to the track with the car yet" as if they ever will

Guys I would have loved to get my hands on the car. I know I could have gotten any problems sorted out. All the basics are their, it just needed TLC and someone that really wants/knows how to make it all come together.
To me the steel of the century was Monty's car. I believe it went for just a little over $30,000 and it put out almost 1200 horse for the twin turbo charged small block. He had more then that in the motor.
I'm embarrised for you guys, lot of haters out in this Forum. Can't anyone be happy for your fellow man. Who cares if he built it or not. He probably made 3 times that money ($250K) working his job then if he had done it himself. Maybe he doesn't have the fabrication skills, hell most of us don't. Either way it's his life and none of our business.
