Default Tremec problem?

My brother in law just called me about his TKO 600. His speedo quite working and he finally got around to pulling it out. While doing this he noticed quite a bit of fluid in that area. When he removed the cable tranny fluid came out. It looks like it was pumping up the cable from the trans into the speedo head and made the speedo not work. The odometer works but not the speedo. He cleaned it and now it is working but why is the fluid being pumped up to the speedo head. Anyone heard of this. I have never checked mine but it still works OK so I assume it is OK.

Do those have vent anywhere on them? I noticed my t-5 has a vent line that I need to put some type of filter on.

Not sure what type of vent it is but could it be plugged causing the venting to pushed out the speedo cable? Any chance of being over filled?

Exactly what someone over in the C2 section said. I'll pass it on to him.

its going into your dash? never heard of this. manual trannys dont have pumps. they just kinda shlosh around. check your vent and fluid level. your speedo is about a foot higher than your tranny, how in the heck is that stuff getting in there??? its going uphill? and if your odometer is turning, the problem isnt in the tranny. the mechanical part anyway. sheesh

The way the cable is turning it if it is getting on the cable it winds its way up the cable. Kind of like an auger bit. We think the oil got on the speedo head and just stopped the needle from moving. Now he has it out and dried off and the needle is moving. I told him to drain some fluid out and check the vent. I need to check mine also now.

I had something like that happen to my TKO. Mine would leak in Fifth gear. We found that Tremec CNC mech. drilled to deep on the speedo cable hole. The O-ring that seals the shifting rod for the top loader is at the top of the speedo cabel hole. My o-ring on that shaft became egg shaped. It got me alittle upset . But,it didn't take much to fix. If you have a hole inside or crack alittle J-B weld will fix it. If oil leaks out the top the seal has to be changed. A good tranny man can do that part. Good Luck
