Default Is it worth it?

Looking at purchasing a 71 vette conv for about 4k. Its a LS5 454 cid 4 spd. with ac, ps, pb. The catch is that it has been in storage and just sitting for about 27 yrs. Its been owned buy three people who were working on other cars and just let it sit(has about 35k miles on the car). Im going to look at it this week, and was wonding what kind of things should I look for and do you guys and gals thinks its a good deal?

Thanks so much for all the help

Do you like to restore cars...and can you do most things yourself? That's the only way it would even be remotely cost effective...

Biggest thing is frame and birdcage rust, other than that, barring bad accident damage, the rest is easy....

For $4K I would buy it even with rust. If it has a rusted frame then buy a new one. Pull the suspension of the old one and build it up as you can afford it. All you need is garage space and you will have a beutiful car.

All it needs to be is complete. ie no parts missing.

If you don't want it let me know I will buy it for that price.

WOW!!! That sounds like the steal of the century to me. It is a BB AC, PS, PB convertible car. For $4k. If this car has a solid frame, it is a heck of a deal. I say jump all over it.

Otherwise you're going to be spending a lot of $$$ on parts & labor.

No it hasnt been an any accidents it was repoed in the 70's, and set for the rest of the time. All its missing is the bumper, its already been stripped of paint. What kind of things should I look for when looking at the car? what problems do you normally run into with a car that has been parked for that long?

"The catch is that it has been in storage and just sitting for about 27 yrs"

Perhaps the storage fee is $100 per month. That would be over $32k plus late fees/intersest? Like any other low cost vette, make sure everything is there. It's quite easy to drop $15k-20K into one, especially if it needs paint.

True, but even changing the frame is a walk in the park...New bird cage...that's a different matter, but still not that bad a job if one is handy with a mig.

I couldn't the 4K fast enough out of my pockets, regardless the condition..that's a big bucks car when done right...

He is sending me pics today if once I get them I will post them up here. As for fixing it up I figure the car is worth quite a bit once done so should be a good deal and if I need help with anything its always easy to get a friend to help when you got a vette bb conv.

Shoot, that is an awesome find. There are guys that find stuff like this but you only hear about them. If one runs across your path , you better take it, its been there so long they would probably take payments Remy
