71VetteLT-1:

I'm just finishing up the install of my 383 from AR Racing. The motor they built for me is: 383ci, 10.5:1 compression, completely forged bottom end, Comp Cams 288HR, Canfield aluminum 200cc heads (ported to 205cc, bowls blended, 2.05/1.60 valves), Weiand Team G sinlge plane intake, 1.5 roller rockers. They said a mule engine of this combo made 525hp@6200rpm. Of course this was at the crank and probably had no accessories hooked up. I'm hoping for about 425hp at the wheels

I think that AR motor is a very nice combination. The motor you talking about that makes 415hp sounds like its just got the wrong parts..Pro 1 heads with an Air Gap, 600cfm Edelbrock carb, and who knows what kind of cam..probably something around the high .480 lift....it just sounds like a bad combination for the hp your expecting, therefore, 415 sounds about right.

yeah, thats exactly what i was thinking, here is a link to an article on Chevyhighperformance.com where they used almost the same exact components and they were able to make 524 horsepower and 512 Torque...the only diff. are smaller intake valve, Speed Demon Carb, 8.5mm wires, and the heads are ported a little...
