I'm just finishing up the install of my 383 from AR Racing. The motor they built for me is: 383ci, 10.5:1 compression, completely forged bottom end, Comp Cams 288HR, Canfield aluminum 200cc heads (ported to 205cc, bowls blended, 2.05/1.60 valves), Weiand Team G sinlge plane intake, 1.5 roller rockers. They said a mule engine of this combo made 525hp@6200rpm. Of course this was at the crank and probably had no accessories hooked up. I'm hoping for about 425hp at the wheels
again, i dont see how that motor (with smaller heads) is making 100 more horsepower than the one we are looking at...are the canfields THAT much better than pro 1s?????

I think that AR motor is a very nice combination. The motor you talking about that makes 415hp sounds like its just got the wrong parts..Pro 1 heads with an Air Gap, 600cfm Edelbrock carb, and who knows what kind of cam..probably something around the high .480 lift....it just sounds like a bad combination for the hp your expecting, therefore, 415 sounds about right.
yeah, thats exactly what i was thinking, here is a link to an article on Chevyhighperformance.com where they used almost the same exact components and they were able to make 524 horsepower and 512 Torque...the only diff. are smaller intake valve, Speed Demon Carb, 8.5mm wires, and the heads are ported a little...
still on the stand but so far mine has steel aero crank, reworked factory rods, forged and coated pistons, motown -2 heads ( 2.08 /1.94 valves )220 cc intake runners, 64 cc chambers, port and polish by me, all comp cam valvetrain, 5.25/5.25 lift, 307 duration at .006 lift, 110 lobe sep with ground smaller basecircle. planning on speed demon with air gap. already have heddman long tubes, ceramic coated. and i was giggling like a girl watching grandsports burnout. HEY grandsport. you still running IRS in that thing?
oh i forgot.... mallory ignition, 8.5 msd race wires, aluminum high vol. watepump, milodomn windage tray oilpan, holley hi po mech. fuel pump and dual electric fans. and im gonna run a flattened x pipe under the diff with flowmasters. what do yall think?
