Trying to get the dash out for replacement. I have the windshield out but not having much luck. The glovebox is out, the center guage console is out but need advice on getting the speedo/tach panel out? Also how many bolts/screws? I took the 4 screws on the sides off, but can't locate anymore and cant get the speedo/tach grouop out.
Stick your head under the dash, look up and you will see 2 tabs coming off the dash onto the bezel. Mine were broken off so It made it easier.

there is two tabs, I just gave a firm pull on mine and it popped right out, when I was done it just snaps right back in when you line it up..didn't need to loosen tabs.

Hey 190 (or something like that), I replaced heater core in my 78 a few years ago and went so far as to loosen those tabs plus pull glovebox and consoles but not as far as speedo/tach unit. Keep us posted and your progress...sounds like you've gone further than any of us.
BTW, do you have A/C and did you find braces up behind the consoles and ductwork?

Unless you drop the steering column, I don't think you can get the speedo/tach out before the dash.
On each side of the dash are two screws. Under the top of the dash are two clips that are bolted to the body, under the windshield. You have to remove the bolts and the clips will fall. They are designed to be installed before the dash so the dash can be pushed on and clip into place. One is located directly above the tach. The other above the glovebox.
You have to remove the center guage panel. I removed the glovebox to get to the clip. I left the speedo/tach panel in place, but unscrewed it from the dash. I also removed the wiring harness and speedo cable, so it could move around with the dash. After that you should just be able to slowly work the dash out. Be careful with the ears that wrap around the windshield pillars, they will break and tear off very quickly.
