those were just what i have seen sold before. im sure its possible. when making a 383 you just have to make sure that all are either internal balance, or all are external balance. i just read that most of the cranks are set up so the counterweights will work for 5.7 rods or longer...i guess it just matters when selecting pistons. anyway, if i were doing this i would spend money on heads. by the time you spend the money blockwork and all the parts, a set of good heads, cam, and intake would give you much more power than staying with stock heads and going 383.
do you feel my stock heads opend up to 2.02 and 165 are good with the 488 lift cam and the stroker? do you think the 366 hp is close according to that calucutar or is it closer to 400 425???
agreed, the chamber difference will be 40 horsepower and 40 lbft of torque in unported form. the smog heads have a very poor chamber design. you can mill them down very much either, or port them well. they are very weak castings. i have a 75 l-82 with smog heads as well. ive tried to find every way around it from buying new heads to make power, but they are the first thing that should go.
You can stick bigger valves in but if the ports are not opened up the bigger valves will not flow much more. A good set of flowing heads is where the HP is made. Extra cubes will help but get some flow in those heads and you will make 400 to 425
