Default head light actutor seals

Can anyone tell me if I can replace the seals and dust boots without removing the vacuum motor? If so, where do I detach the rod from the headlight assembly? If not, I see a hood removal, but still need to know where the rod is detached from the assembly. Goal is to have headlights going up and down by this weedend. First time in a couple of years. Shame on me! Advanced thanks for your help.

This might help

I changed the ones on my 82 and was able to drop the actuator out the bottom of front nose section.

I think I got mine off with the hood still on - can't remember for sure. drop a towel down to protect the hood while you try it... Easiest for sure if the hood comes off. That's an easy one if you get someone to help you lift it off and put it back on... The Zip article talks about pulling the two braces but I didn't have to do that...

You can get it out past the hood if you move them to the center with the hood closed (from underneath), then open the hood and work them gently out (tape the front of the hood to prevent paint damage). Be very carefull when removing the eyes--the shafts are cheap pot metal and if you stick a lever through the eye to get them to turn, the shaft will sheer quicker than you can say 'boo'. If they're at all difficult to turn, soak them in penetrating oil and be patient.

I think the question was, do you have to remove the actuators themselves (they aren't really motors). The answer is yes, you have to remove the actuators to open them up and replace the seals... At least I think you do. Can't imagine how you could take them apart without taking them out first.

As for the hood.... my actuators came out fairly easily (hood was closed). Then I had the hood open, I guess just to look around. I was having a terrible time trying to put the actuator back in - it just wouldn't fit. I was going crazy until I finally figured out I had to CLOSE the hood to make room for the actuator to go back in....
