throttle cable alignment
The gas pedal is hard to push down, it isn't the springs on the carb etc.
The issue is the angle at which the gas pedal rod pulls the cable, It pulls down and adds resistance at the gas pedal. It is really annoying, you can't get a "small" gas increase because of the friction, instead you keep applying pressure and then boom, the pedal goes to the floor.
It looks like the pedal and the swivel for it attached on the FW should be moved up about half an inch, but there isn't any room for it to, or the rod needs to be another 1/2" longer. Anyone else have this issue? It is almost like the rod is too short I guess, and the further you push the pedal, the more the resistance is because the greater the angle.
Is a bracket bent? Sounds strange assuming nothing is binding up... Look at photos of other engines and see if your assembly looks like it is oriented like theirs... Post a photo of yours as well.

I don't have a digital, but I'll see if my pic phone can get a good picture of it. You can see where it is binding, where the cable comes out of it's sheath under the dash. I'll try to post tonight.

It doesn't look to bad from the angle in the picture, I couldn't get my camera up there any better to get the picture. Maybe I'll simply try to WD-40 it or something. It is kind of funny, when you press the gas slowly, it "chirps" like a bird as it finally slips and pulls the cable.
There is no mouse in my pocket, but there is a bird behind my dash!!
sounds like you need a new cable. the inside casing is probably binding against the cable ,sounds dangerous if it does go to the floor when you dont want it to. my tach cable went out,so i went ahead and changed them all.gas ,speedo ,,and tach,,and i bought a tube of cable eze and lubed them all up,done for 30 more years..

Unfortunately This is a new one. It was installed just before I bought the car. Since I didn't do it, is there supposed to be some lubricant or something that maybe the installer didn't do? I remember on my old truck, I had to grease the speedo cable before installing it or something.
