I am getting a built 350 and the guy building my motor say that I do not need air condition. They are putting a big cam in my motor. I am not sure what the duration is, but I was wondering if any of you are running big cams with a/c. What do you think. Thanks
Any hard-core hot rodder is going to remove anything from the vehicle that doesn't make it go faster. Air conditioning will rob useable power from the engine and add weight to the vehicle. Your engine builder is probably just coming from that angle.

I love it. Nice cold factory air coupled to a correct complete 1966 crate L72 427/450HP engine with a blank car vin number. Only the build date and "IP" is on the pad. A nice relatively low idle RPM of 850 in or out of gear thanks to a 3000 stall converter and a 4.11 gear. Hot days and with the windows rolled up in a completely unrestored 1968 SS/RS 396 Camaro makes me leave the 62 Vette home and everyone envious. Solid lifter engines and AC is the way to go. Cant beat it with a stick.
It's easier to keep your A/C functional. It only takes power when it's on and it doesn't draw that much power anyway. If that is a concern, then convert to a Sanden compressor. As far as the "big cam" and air, it's a matter of rpm. I would not be too surprised to find that it pitches the belt once you get above 6k+ rpm. You can also use a belt stabilizer, which is nothing more than a piece of flat metal a fraction of an inch above the belt that acts like an idler, over the long belt span to address that.
I'm going to be one othe few guys in the 12's WITH A/C.
It's too hot in FL to be without it.
I know my cam is very lumpy. I think the duration is 238 and lift .500 something. I'll check when I get home, unless Olvier sees this and has it memorized.
Due to only 9" of vac at idle, the vents take a 20 seoconds or so to change from blowing on the floor to the dash vents, but the a/c still works.
