Default Steering Wheel recomendations for T\T column.

To give me some more room I need to replace my stock wheel with a good looking 14" wheel. Anybody have any recommendations and part numbers? Pics of what you guys have would be great too.

Is there a difference between T\T and std column wheels?

I have this Momo steering wheel in mine. Works great especially since I don't have T/T column.

I installed a 1977 steering wheel in my original 1976 Corvette. I don't believe that it is 14 inches but I thought it to be a big improvement over the 1976 T&T wheel.

You had to use the 1977 extension #458910 with the 1977-82 steering wheel. If you look closesly at the AIM that shows the extension for the 1977-82 wheel you can see where that extension has a dent where the 6 o'clock steering wheel spoke must rest. (The 6 o'clock spoke is welded on to the center section of the steering wheel and therefore is two metal thicknesses at that point). So you need some clearance at that point. There is a cutout on the Hub Asm 3949110 to match the dent in the extension.

One point of controversy: If you look at the AIM which shows the extension for the 1969-75 wheel you can see that it is flat where it meets the steering wheel. That same picture shows a Hub Asm that is also flat and does not have a cutout. Yet it is the same part number 3949110.

According to GM policy, the new hub with the cutout should be a different part number since the original hub without the cutout would cause a 1977-82 steering wheel and its extension to be somewhat cocked where it attached. (It might not be a big deal but the steering wheel by design should fit squarely and properly on the steering column.)

Does anyone have access to a 1969-75 Hub Asm? Is it possible that the old Hub Asm had the cutout at 6 o'clock all along? Maybe the 69-75 AIM drawing is just not absolutely correct and just doesn't show the cutout.

Hi Jim,

I will check mine at home tonight after work, unless this is answered before then.
