PROPERTY DISTRIBUTION: Maryland is an "equitable distribution" state. The spouses retain their separate property, including: (1) any gifts and inheritances; (2) property acquired prior to the marriage; and (3) property which is directly traceable to property listed in (1) or (2). [Annotated Code of Maryland; Family Law, Sections 8-202, 8-203, and 8-205].

If your car was bought using any of the following methods then it is yours alone.

Non-marital property of one spouse includes gifts and inheritances given just to that spouse, personal injury awards received by that spouse, and the proceeds of a pension that vested (that is, the pensioner became legally entitled to receive it) before marriage. Property purchased with the separate funds of a spouse remain that spouse's separate property. A business owned by one spouse before the marriage remains his or her separate property during the marriage, although a portion of it may be considered Marital property if the business increased in value during the marriage or both spouses worked at it.

If she is spiteful do not let on how much the car means to you or she will do anything to get it. Good luck.

All states should be like that. I am not sure what Pennsylvania is considered; however, the judges typically give way more than 50% to the woman. If there are children involved, she might as well expect 75% of his income.
My wife and I were seperated for several years and most of the assests she blew away. Fortunately she passed away leaving a few items that she could not sell which let me as the sole owner.

 

Mine got down to the point where we each got 1 bar stool,2 gumbo bowls,2 saucers etc.Was able to keep all my guns because i either had them before we got married,or she gave them to me as gifts Got my Corvette 3 days after i got my legal separation Had to get usedto being single again and the car helped

you know a car that is running poorly ( lets say on 5 cylinders) just doesn't bring any serious money (from a friend)...... so you just give 1/2 of the proceeds to the ex.....after all if it isn't working right what can you do about it?....some time later a miracle cure is in order.....

 

Take that bugger apart. take out the interior, pull the motor, "lose" some of the parts. Store the parts at several locations throughout the city. Then have it appraised. If they want the car tell them to bring a bunch of boxes, a few strong guys and a couple of trucks and they can have it.

When they get a look at it, they won't want the hassle. Then, later on you'll have a fun project putting it back together and even improving it some.

You could always cancel your collision and put it through a minor fender bender. "Sell" it to a scrap yard. Give your wife half of the money you get from the scrap yard. Then when its all over, go buy your vette back, buy a new fender, get it painted. BAM.

10 - 1 the scrapyard owner has been through a messy divorce too.

 

and, in case your considering it, i don't really recommend the Scott Peterson solution. long term negatives outweigh the short term gains.

WOW, i am only 18 and after hearing all you guys talk about divorce and everything.... and how i could loose my car! i don't want to get married! haha

 

I lost my vette, among many many many many many many other things. Trust me on this.... a GREAT lawyer is worth their weight in GOLD. Don't go cheap on a lawyer (like I did). Just like vettes, you get what you pay for!

I'm with you. I'm 25 and all I do is date girls. I've had a few live with me and want to get married, but just for reasons like this I'm staying single. It's like all the advantages of marriage without the lawyers.

I'm 21, and I will NEVER get married...it seems highly disturbing to me, but a man should think everything through before he steps into the money pit of woman...it stinks, I would love to have kids someday etc., but to hear these horror stories, among many others...I find it very hard nowadays to seriously EVER consider getting married...maybe I will just steal some rich persons kids like in "Raising Arizona"...

 

i learned the first time, thats why ill never get married again. cant afford another divorce, now a days if the toast gets burned there callin a lawyer,,and they wonder why its hard to find a good man, actually if they made you go to a class before you got married ,,of all the stuff your gonna go thru in a divorve, 1/2 of the people wouldnt make the mistake,

 

are there any kid's involved? If not either have it stolen, and recoverd after the mess is over, or just kill her.(just kidding) about the have it stolen part.
