I posted last week about my attempt to wet sand my car.... it seemed to work well (I used 1500 grit paper, then 2000 grit polishing compound, paint cleaner, polish and wax...)
It only looks good for about four days, then it's dull again...
A few members mentioned that enamel paint cannot be wet-sanded.... I assume this is my problem.... it seems that the car was painted with enamel paint, there's no clearcoat...
I am planning on a paintjob later this year... I hoped that the wet-sanding makes it look nicer so that I could have it painted later, maybe next year... well..... this plan didn't work....
Some time this year I'll start removing the red paint... and post photos for everybody's enjoyment....
This is enamal paint. Centri Acrylic enamal, wet sanded with 600 then 1000 and buffed out with a makita buffer and a one step buffing compound.
This paint is at least 5 plus years old.
Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome car.
What kind of blower is that. This is what I am looking to do with mine. Did you have any clearance problems in the front of motor when you installed it? Was you able to keep the ac?

It' s weiand 8-71 running 15% overdrive and 12 pounds of boost.
I did clearance the crossmember a little bit, they do one side and I just carried the clearancing all the way across, I also built a custom accessory lower pulley that allowed me to move the alternator and power steering bumps low and in front of the motor. A stock setup requires the accessories to me moved high and out, Mine are down low and in front of the motor. Very easy to do.
AC?? What is that?? My car is cool enough without it
your Corvette looks awesome !! If my paint looked like yours I wouldn't try to buff it
74FLCONV,
yours also looks a lot better than mine.... I'll do a search on Imron, that may be what it is, maybe mine is so dull because of all the polish that I (and the previous owner) used.... ???
Anyway, it's going to be either black or yellow some time this year......

It appears to be a "hard" finish...kinda like fingernail polish. Doesn't have a "deep" look to it like regular car paint. It doesn't oxidize and shines like new with water & towel-dry. But, there's tons of swirl marks. Don't think it was made to be polished with traditional waxes/cleaners that have mild abrasives. The one time I waxed it (liquid, non-abrasive), it got "muddy". The wax wouldn't soak-in...kinda just sat on the surface.
A body shop manager told me they use Imron on the fiberglas bodies of big-rigs. Since they flex so much, the Imron allows for it without spider-cracking.
