My tach stopped working this week on my 71, I just unscrewed the drive line from the distributor and spun it by hand and the tach still works. So I figure maybe it was just loose but when I put it back together is still didn't work. Any ideas?
It's easy to change the driven gear, you just unscrew the bushing the cable screws onto without removing the distributor. However, the drive gear could also be worn in which case your driven gear will wear out within 10 or 20 thousand miles. To change the drive gear you need to replace the main distributor shaft (or replace the distributor).
