Dremel or Shotgun? (like TwinTurbo suggested) J/K Olivier!

Hey Norm, what do you know about radios anyway? As if you could hear yours over those pipes! (and he's getting bigger ones )

Norm was the only person at the track Saturday night NOT covering his ears when the blown alcohol dragster was running

I'd have a LOTA hearing loss

My stereo hasn't worked for almost 2 years now. But it looks good filling in the bezel. I do still have the 10CD changer in the car (somewhere). Oh yea, where the heater use to be. WOW...maybe I should remove them both for less weight!!!!

The stereo does give the car that stock NCRS look !!!

This is how I did it. Just go slow and take it easy.

After I mounted it, I then filled in the sides with some filler and this is how it sits now.
I still need to sand it down some more and clean the edges up before paint.

Hey Todd68, Real nice job on that CD install
Thanks! My original bezel was already hacked before I started, so I figured why not cut it some more...

Default Update

I cut my Bezel last night. I started with a sawzall, but there was no way to keep it clean so I decided to switch to a dremel. I used a dremel and a dremel cutting wheel. It took forever, but I ended up getting it to fit. I went to put the plastic trim piece on that I bought and it broke! I can not believe it. Luckly, I have a steal one that I may be able to cut with the dremel. I will get to work on it tonight and try to post some pictures.

I know how rear those bezels are. If the bezel was in good shape, I would have kept it but it really was a piece of crap. It had already been hacked by the previous owner. I thought about getting the aftermarket bezel, but the 68 costs 250 bucks! I will post some pics as soon as I finish.

Default Additional Question

I attempted to cut the metal trim piece with the dremel tool, but it just ruined the finish. Instead, I ordered another plastic trim piece from the same online place that I order the previous one from. After I get it, all I have to do is cut the plastic trim piece and then install the radio. I already checked and the radio fits in the bezel, so it should be easy sailing from here.

Here is a question for you: Any suggestions on the easiest way to cut the plastic trim without ruining it. I tried to score it with a razor knife, but because of its awkward shape, it was very difficult. I ended up just using a razor blade. Is this the best method? Any tricks?

Thanks,
Joe

Default Update with Pics

Hello everyone,
Thanks for all of your help, here are some pictures of the bezel after the install. Not perfect, but good enough for me.

As promised, here are some pictures of the bezel with the CD player in it. As you can see, the bezel was already in pretty rough shape, so I cut it with a dremel tool to fit the CD player. I used a plastic trim piece to go around it for a snug fit and a cleaner look. That same plastic piece, I broke the first time I tried to install the radio. The trick is to score it with a razor knife and then “snap the blade through the plastic, once you have a decent groove. It took a while to get that plastic piece right. (about 1.5 hours) Cutting the bezel took about 2 hours. The cost so far for the CD player, paint, tools, and materials is about $100.

Take a look and let me know what you think. Next step is wiring and installation into the car. I hope that I can get this thing back together!

Question for you: Where did you guys get your constant power from? And what about the ground, where did you find a good one of those in the console?

I will post more pictures after I install this thing on Sunday.

Thanks,
Joe

I know it, those things are big bucks.
I would have paid it if my bezel was in goood shape, but it is a real piece.
Anyone know about a good source for constant power, I can tap into. or a good grounding location?

Thanks,
Joe

I didn't use any of the wires from the wiring harness because they were already hacked a bit. Plus, the speaker wiring is goofy and just got confusing so I ran all my own wires. I ran the constant pwr and ign pwr to the fuse box. I first tried using the ground that was already there from the wiring harness but it was horrible and let in a lot of noise. So I ran a 10 gauge wire straight to the battery and that did the trick. I would suggest the same and it will help eliminate any alternator or other noise.

Thanks for the tip.
I think that I will do the same.
Did you just pigtail the connection into the fuse box with female connectors??

Thanks,
Joe
