Hi,
I am new to this forum, and only have had my corvette for a couple of years now, so I don't know alot about them yet. My car is a 1980 and mostly stock. It starts up very easy on warm days, but has a hard time starting on cold mornings. Is there a trick to set the electric choke? I would be thankful for any help.
I have a 76 with the thermostate choke thingy, Starts fine o nwarm days, and on cold days I just have to depress the gas pedal twice to start it up, but never takes more than 5 seconds to start.
Thanks for the replies
I guess I should give more info on what it does. It will start, but only with pumping or holding down the gas pedal, but needs feathering of the gas pedal to keep running until warms up. Until it runs by its self, it puts out alot of smoke.
Pumping the gas a few times is normal if it is cold, but keep pumping it after it runs isn't. Once it fires up it should idle high, then when it's warm it idles at normal speed.
It sounds like your choke is not working properly. It should snap shut when you first press the pedal when cold. The electric part opens it up slowly as the engine warms up. I'd check for binding in the mechanism and spring.
I can see now that I must have something wrong with my choke. I been reading some other cold start posts, and have been learning alot from them When I pull my car out this spring I will try to apply some of this good info to my car.
Yes, something is not right, because it does not idle up after it starts up? But after it is warm it will idle.
I don't know if you have already done this, but try starting it with the aircleaner off and the hood up. That way you can see exactly what the choke is doing.
Right now I have the problem that my electric choke starts closed, but opens in about 15 seconds (not touching the throttle or anything.) Anybody know which way to adjust the "cover plate" to make it open slower??
