Default Starter problem

Last weekend I was tuning up my 74 SB. While “bumping” the engine the starter began to continuously crank the engine even after the ignition was turned off and the key removed. By the time I got the battery disconnected the engine was no longer cranking but the starter was still running. I plan to look into this over the weekend. I’m thinking solenoid. Anyone have any other opinions? Thanks

It could be the soleniod or possibly the ignition switch. Unhook the wire to the solenoid and see if it still getting power to it. If if is then it working the way it should and there is something else wrong. As you ae aware the purpose of the solenoid is to control something that requires a lot of power by something much smaller.

Similar thing happened to me. Changed the whole starter - solenoid and all. Problem went away.
