Our legislature is in session now, (they meet for three months every other year) and a lot of corvette enthusiasts are backing a bill that would eliminate the requirement for a front license plate.
I was wondering how many other states do not require it. I know of Arizona....
Ohio requires one but never had a problem without it so far. Keep it in the car and figure if they would ever say anything i would just tell them i had taken it off for a show and forgot to put it back on,might work once.
I believe Florida is still one of the others (had bought a FL car a few years) ... here in IL I think a small group is trying to do the same (go to a single plate)
It's required in Texas. A friend of mine is a state trooper and he says it's nothing more than a tool that helps them have probable cause to pull someone over. Go figure.
Ohio requires a front plate and I have been pulled over 3 times for not having one. Now (after a number of challanges), Ohio has started taking pictures of cars not obeying the law. The ticket is sent to the driver in the mail (identified from the front plate).
Well, i'm tagged and from delaware. Only one plate there. I go to school however in Virginia. Here they require two plates, but that doesn't pertain to me
here in Illinois you are supposed to have one, but many vettes and ricers are not running them. the mechanic at work says it's not illegal to run with out one, but I'd bet he's wrong. i'm on the Illinois - Missouri border, so if you don't have one in the front and a cop goes by, he assumes you"re from Missouri, and then as he goes by you, he sees you're from Illinois, well, then he's got to trun around and chase you down. it does give them reason to pull you over, so best not be doing nothing illegal.
California requires two license plates; one in the front and one in the rear.
You often see cars here that don't have a front license plate. Sometimes you see cars that don't have license plates at all. Often you see people that have translucent covers over their license plates so you can't see the license plate number.
An acquaintance of mine that worked for my company bought a new Toyota and the dealer installed paper advertising "plates" on the car. I think he drove it for 5 to 10 years and never bought license plates. (He later moved to England.)
It's also an infraction to have tinted windshields and tinted drivers/passengers windows. Many people here drive around with tinted windshields and windows.
I've noticed on the freeways here the California Highway Patrol ignores these cars.
If anyone from California is reading this, what are your comments????l
I live in the bay area. When I bought my 69 10 years ago it didn't have a front plate. Guess I have been lucky, never have been pulled over.
I better find some wood!!!
