I'm not going to mess with the differential.. I don't understand about posis at all.. I leave it to those specialized in differentials to check and diagnose them... I'm 100% sure that something inside broke.. There's no way that a healthy differential would've acted the way it did just before I pulled the old engine... I have a new differential coming and don't want to risk that I would cause any more problems with it so that I wouldn't be able to drive the car anymore until the 12-bolt gets delivered..
If anything (serious) broke in there (I doubt) you would be getting off your driveway..

My old differential was cracked and both spider gears had each a tooth missing and I was able to drive over 300 miles with that..
I can post pics of that differential if you want...
I actually drove from South Florida to Van Steel in Clearwater to have it fixed.... It was close to breaking apart
I told you when the rear was down to take the cover off and see what's going on in there. Maybe something minor, why it seems to lock-up once-in-awhile. And you tell me you did not want to have to buy another gasket for the cover . You just probably wouldn't know what you are looking at once you opened it up or the tools to fix it (if it was something simple)
I have given up You call me and ask me advice & questions and when I answer you, you have these excuses why you don't do it.
I am curious about using the royal purple oil. I have an ar 350 in my 76 and when I tried the royal purple I was going thruogh about a quart every 100 miles switched back to dino oil and no oil consumption in 300 miles (put her to bed for the winter) Have you noticed any problrms with the syn oil? What type of valve guide seals are in your engines? This is where I think mine was leaking at.

I'm a proponent of synthetic oils because of this analogy: picture a bunch of marbles all the same size on the ground with a piece of plywood on top. All the marbles will be touching the plywood, distributing the load on them all. Now imagine varying sized marbles with the same plywood on them. Only the largest diameter marbles would support the weight. From what I've read, syn oil has uniformed sized "marbles" and dino oil doesn't.
before Norm, Bob or Olivier beat me to it.....yes, I HAVE lost my marbles.
Regarding oil consumption? My BMW and the Vette both use oil. Neither really smokes, so I assume it just uses it. Maybe burns it at a slow rate. I've never used dino oil in either motor since I've owned them, so I've nothing to compare to. My Geo Prizm does not use any oil between changes and it stays cleaner than any car I've ever owned. I recently switched to syn oil and consumption has not changed. Maybe because the motor is just for show and it's really hamster powered.

I'm trying to picture it, but if I threw a bunch of marbles on the ground and threw a sheet of plywood on them, they would just squish into the red Ga clay, all would touch
Let me clarify just in case....I meant the GEO's Motor!
it IS possible. The car uses so little gas, I think the hamsters just use it for their generator to power their TV and fridge while they're not powering the car!
