I use my vette for long distance trips, and weekend drives I have more confdence in my corvette on long highway drives, then I do with my newer ford truck. For a car that is 25 years old it still drives better than most new cars.
I drive when weather is nice... Not always warm but not raining. it is a PIA to clean the underside if I drive it in the rain. Probably put 2-3k per year on each vette. I have a dai.ly driver that I use, but I visit my client's at their house or business, and driving up in a red vette looks a little flashy, though most know I have them.
Looking at the posts over the last few months, I kinda get the impression that most of the cars talked about are either torn apart for most of their lives or if working are only taken out in the sunshine on a Sunday afternoon with the wife driving a back up C5 or tow truck !!
anyone out there use their Vette seven days a week come rain or shine and will do till Hell freezes over ?
Is there a lack of confidence in older cars. My personal choice is to use older cars regardless.
Prefer to use my 1963 Ford in bad weather, cos theres no fancy electrics or computor to go down, and its heater is the best in the World.
So, Vette owners of the World, do you have a garage ornament or a car ??
I have a garage ornament. I look forward to putting it on blocks come October and start tearing it apart. To me working on it is just as much fun as driving it.
Take it to work?? Never. The nice paint could get keyed, the car could get ripped off. It is only a hobby. I prefer to drive my dodge 4x4 for everyday driving. Don't have to wash the truck too often either.
I also haul alot, 2 trips a week to the dump at least, smelly horse equipment.
No my wife doesn't follow in a tow truck, she rides beside me.
I can afford to have my toy and drive something besides.

until last Nov 9 before i started my major project i drove the car one tank of gas per week.....mostly pleasure cruising and running to the store....drove it to work once a week onthe nice days and will soon start up that normal usage again.

When i bought my '78 in '89 it was my daily driver from april to november. Now i try to use it as much as possible but with my insurance i can't go to work with it and with a child is kind a hard to fit all in the vette. And there's one mistake i will never do is to take it apart. When i do work on my vette i make sure i don't go too far in the work so she is always ready to run. I have two friends who started some work on there vettes and 5 years later it's not finish. In that time it's kind of borring running in circle alone. Im waiting for them so we can go on a cruise, hopefully this year one of them will have his vette on the road.
It seems that every time i drive it i find something little that needs fixing. But its never left me stranded, and its never failed to start when i wanted to go somewhere. Last drive the alternator belt flipped over, I always carry tools so i got out and put it back, but i think its time for a new one.
April thru October weekend cruiseins & shows allways starts seldom needs repair most are just upgrade improvements.Kids (grown) say i have to take care of there inheritance!!!!! 118k everything works including the alarm & clock.
I only have an L48 so it's pretty reliable. I've had the car since July 2004 and nothing has broken on it. I don't enjoy driving it nearly as much with the tops on so I just park it in the garage when it's cold out. Lately it's been sitting. It will be driven a lot come April.
I drive mine when I can drive it with the top down. Living in Michigan that's not as much as I'd like. I can't take it to work...it's not safe there. Since May of 2001...1026 miles. A few things don't work, clock, radio, horn, etc but it looks and runs good. It's an old car and I don't see any reason to subject it too the rigors of every day use...that why I have my Plymouth Acclaim, four door sedan, pure sex machine ! I just drive it when I want to enjoy driving and not really worried about getting anywhere.
i drive the crap outa mine every chance i get. thats what they were made for. not some rich pansie that keeps it in the garage. vettes were meant to be driven
