Looking at the posts over the last few months, I kinda get the impression that most of the cars talked about are either torn apart for most of their lives or if working are only taken out in the sunshine on a Sunday afternoon with the wife driving a back up C5 or tow truck !!
anyone out there use their Vette seven days a week come rain or shine and will do till Hell freezes over ?
Is there a lack of confidence in older cars. My personal choice is to use older cars regardless.
Prefer to use my 1963 Ford in bad weather, cos theres no fancy electrics or computor to go down, and its heater is the best in the World.
So, Vette owners of the World, do you have a garage ornament or a car ??
Bought my 82 in July of last year. Put about 3000 miles on it till I had to park it in December. Working on it now till the insurance coverage is back on it April 1st. Drive it everyday that I get the chance.
I enjoy mine on a nice day. I have modern fuel injection and an old Shark. Best of both worlds I think. I am not afraid to go anywhere, anytime but I choose not to in order for the car to last longer. Also my insurance only allows 2500 mi/yr. But everything works, and it doesn't have any rattles or squeaks, and is very reliable.
my 79 is my april thru october week end cruiser, it's all rebuilt with 102,000 on it, and it had 83,000 on it when i bought it in 1996. it's only really missed one driving season and that was due to my knee injury in 1998, I couldn't get in the car for June, July, and til mid August. it's not driven in the rain, in the snow, or when there is salt in the street, like now. usually, the t-tops come off in April and I don't put them back on til November, not even to wash it.
Drive mine daily! Wife wanted to take other car when it was raining hard, vette leaks a little, but getting it sorted out. Driving a 29 year out car requires repair, but it is worth it.
Of course it sounds like everybody's car is falling apart if you read the posts here. Very few people post just to say, "hey, my car's still running great." Most people post either when they have a problem or when they're interested in an upgrade (or when they just want to yak ) .
i bought my LS5 this past summer and i bought to drive only when i feel like having fun and a host of compliments and gawks... but not only is it fun to drive but i feel a real sense of accomplishment when i work on it myself. a 34 yr. old car would expect to have issues that need to be addressed. another reason i bought is because i don't have to drive it everyday and that makes having it even more special
Mine at the moment is runnign just fine, but the only reason I don't drive it is that I don't have the use of a garage at home so in the winter I store in my aunt's garage. Because I dont really mind drive it in the snow I just don't want it sitting in the snow for three straight months!
I used to drive mine daily always with the L48 in it. I did for while with the 383. But 10 miles to work, in traffic, highest speed limit of 50, how much fun can ya have? I was just frustrating myself sitting on all that power with nowhere to use it while getting 6-7 mpg.
Now I take the Vette to work one day per week and use my Prizm as a daily driver. It's comfortable and has a stereo that I can hear. It also gets at least 4 times better mpg. That saves money for more mods
Mine runs great (even the clock works since I rebuilt it). I would drive it to work on nice days but unfortunately I work in downtown Newark, NJ, which is not a place you want to take a classic unless you're abandoning it. Hehe. Is it Spring yet?
I agree about using older cars. The one in the middle is my daily driver, the Vette gets lots of street miles, but generally only in better weather. Sorry about the F*rd in the pic - it's the wife's.
Daily driver here. My round trip is only 26 miles each day. With the real idiots on the road blocking traffic, the extra power is nice to have when offering an example of how to stay out of everyones way. Yeah, gas mileage is scary with the new demon but I was raised by a dad in the bulk gas and fuel business so gas has never been an issue even now that I have to pay for it. I do try to borrow the wife's expedition when I know the weather is bad.

Oh yes, always worked from day one and that will be was 43 years ago the end of this month. # 107512
I drive my Corvette EVERY day. I have a 90 Honda Accord available to me, in perfect condition, 4cyl auto, which I could drive every day if I desired. Funny thing is - I tried driving it once to and from school and I noticed two things:
1) My stress levels were going up.
2) I felt embarrassed to be driving it.
*shrug* Haven't driven it since, other than to run errands with family members who tend to abuse cars(bang doors into things, step on the railing, push on the windows, etc)
Unless the roads are icy or snow covered, my 72 goes daily. What is the sense of having the car if you can't enjoy it. I've had it for 11 years and it is only parked when the snow is deep.
