Default which carb for a zz4?

I have a 1980 Corvette that I have owned for 21 years. I am planning to have a zz4 installed in April. I want an automatic choke so I have to put some money into my quadrajet or replace it. I am thinking of and Edlebrock 1806 (thunder series 650 cfm), a 1400 (street legal 600 cfm), or a 1411 (750 cfm). What do you need for a zz4? I live in NY and will keep the catalytic convertor (for inspection). I am most interested in torque for acceleration.

Barry Grant makes a demon carb specifically for the zz4...I would definitely go with that one.....750cfm i think..

Thanks for the recommendation. I just searched them. They have one with vacuum secondary and no choke (I can order one separately) or with an electric choke and mechanical secondary. I think I'll go for the vacuum secondary.

I have the 650 mechanical BG on my ZZ4. Love it, but it runs a little rich at idle. Other than that, it performs great. I'm still working out the bugs in my drivetrain so the richness at idle may not be all the carbs fault.

Another option is the Holley that Inglese/Weber modified specifically for our engines. http://www.inglese.com/hbiparts.html
I don't know what the BG carbs run, but this one will cost you over $600.00. I'd love to know if anyone on the Forum has run one.
There's also a ton of information out there on how to make your Q-Jet run, and I'm sure a Forum member could recommend a carb rebuilding service that could do it for you if you'd rather go that route.
Good luck, and please post if you find something that works well.

My GM Crate ZZ-5 385 fastburn came with papers that recomended a 770 CFM Holley. Scoggin Dickie carries a 770 Holley that is especially for the ZZ engines. Jim

Most of the carbs recommended are larger than what I'm using. I have a 670 CFM Holley Street Avenger.

That is the same carb I am using and I love it BG Demon makes the best carbs out there IMO.

I bought my ZZ4H (hot cam ZZ4) from Scroggin-Dickie. The ZZ4 was at one time also sold in another version with carburetor. Scroggin sells the carb intended for the ZZ4. It's a Holley. Just ask them and they'll sell it to you. I bought one. (It has an electric choke.)
