Well it looks like I'm going to get stuck with a restored salvage title on my new 1970 BB vert (NOM). It appears that the salvage is from a stolen/recovery and not a wreck per se. The seller is willing to take it back but I really like the car and he is willing to provide some cash compensation.
The car was originally a small block that has had a 454 put in it. It has a 74 nose and rear (I plan to change it back). I have over $17K in receipts for mechanical work done in the last 3 years (not including the engine replacement)...transmission had been rebuilt..interior is a mess. The frame looks fine and it drives straight and solid. The non original paint is OK put is starting to peel- needs repaint.
Am I stuck with it for life? With a salvage title does anyone have any idea on what this vehicle might be worth? I paid $13K knowing it was not original.
If you are really hung up on what it says on the title then I would get my money back. But for me the car sounds like a good one at a fair price and I would be happy. My daily driver is a 90 firebird with a salvaged title and it has been a very realiable car with 200,000 miles on the engine.
By the time you change the nose and rear and paint the car you will be at $ 20,000.00 easy. If you look hard you can get a small block with a good title for that kind of money. But if you like the car keep it. IMO.
Dump it fast and run. If your going to keep it, I would offer no more than $5000. I'm sorry, but it's not worth a whole lot as a 70 - 74 sb/bb vert. Who else knows what you will drag out of this car.

Good point- I am going to have an Vette expert look at tomorrow to see what else might be wrong.

if he is willing to give you your money back...think seriously about getting your money back.....if your are hungup on being a correctly restored car definitely get your money back.....
If you don't care about correctly restored stuff and you are into a resto mod see how much cash he will give you back....these cars are between 35-31 yrs old....who really cares what happened in the past???? just remember you have cut your future consumer market way down.....and you have to be able to tell people right up front you have a bastard child....if that makes you skiddish get your money back....having said that i love bastard children.....stolen/recovery is better then having been wrecked can you get documentation on that aspect of it?

Thanks-
I am certainly not hung up about correctly restored stuff. Just fun. AZ MVD is being less than cooperative on providing info. I am think about try to get back to them to see if they will provide the documentation or maybe even using my insurance agent to pull the info. I am not sure what database they are accessing as two other states (FLA and MASS) issued a clean title on the vehicle in the last 7 years.

you have some sort of elected state representative right? use them for leverage........
If the seller told me he'd take it back, it'd been there yesterday-95% of cars with a salvage title seem cursed FOREVER, 'specially when it's "YOUR" turn to be the seller
Get rid of it. The salvage title will haunt you. There are plenty of good C3's out there without the checkered past and most are undervalued in the marketrplace.
Unless you don't really love this car, get your money back... walk away and don't look back.
Sounds like you will have to put a ton of money into it, and i think you could do much better.
Just take your time a look around. they are out there.
Get OUT of this deal, You've just edged into the tip of the iceburg! Take the money and let me find you a car, I'm a pro! But realy all I know is a "Bad" deal and how to avoid them. 50% of the guys on this forum with that money to shop with will get you an excelent car! Pic a color!,.................No Realy!
