I have an early 68. This is one of the few easy and cheap fixes on a 68. And it works okay so I would just fix the original setup.
To replace the flaps just remove the flap trim on the inside.
Then pull the rubber retianers out
Replace the flaps and install the rubber retainers
Replace the trim gasket and install the trim
I would buy new rubber retainers when you buy the flaps
You'll ll need to take and air hose and blow out your plenum drains as well. If they're plugged the water will back flow into your passenger compartment. I've washed my car a couple of times since and no leaks through the flaps. But if I use a hose more doors leak down at the bottom. I need to check how bubba installthe weather stripping
