Default Temp sender for dual Spal's?

I need a replacement. Is the sender from DeWitt's a universal type sender? It's not at all like the stock sender for the gauge. It's longer and thinner.

I have it mounted in the intake.

Something I can pick up at Advance Auto? They're not open here yet.

You may be in trouble here for a quick fix.

The sensor for the gauge has a variable resistance with temperature in order to display a range. The sensor for the fans is the type that closes the circuit when it gets hot (basically just on/off). I presume DeWitts sells something similar to what I have from BeCool (on at 195, off at 185). A sensor for a warning light may work the same but the range would probably be all wrong since the idiot lights usually come on at a really high temp (220+).

Now, I am sure that there is a standard part for a fan sensor but I doubt that the counter people at Advance will be too helpful (you really need the kind of store where they have books of parts).

Best bet is probably wait till Monday and get in touch with DeWitts. Odds are it is a stock replacment part, you just need to know what application to ask for.

Len!

I broke the SAME sensor and Tom replaced it for $24.... Send him an email and if you bought the dual fan set up, he should have your credit card info to get this mailed out on Monday......

Depending on what temperature you need, you might be able to get one at the local AP.

The TPI and LT1 cars used a temperature sensor to turn on their fans which was a different sensor than the one used to connect to the temperature gauge if memory serves me correctly.

as SteveG75 said, it is an on/off with a preset range. Be aware that these things are +/- 10 degrees accuracy. I wnet through 3 or 4 before I got one that worked just right. You don't want to sense "off" below your t-stat closing or the fans will never shut down. I dealt with Painless Wiring for mine.

I have the on/off @185. I think my fans run more than necessary. I run AC in summer. What are my options for switches? TIA
