For those of you who have done this, I went to count the turns lock to lock, but cannot turn to max right because the center tie-rod bracket (where the tie-rod bolts in), hits the tubing.

Anyone have this problem?
yes i had that problem.....i wound up putting two extra washers inbetween the rack and pinion unit and the tie rod bracket...i discussed this at length with the engineer at Steeroids and you have to install one on each bolt....these are available at Home Depot in the Metric bins... i even had them send me a different tube and it didn't make a difference....i'll add a picture to this... my mouse is not clicking and copying have to figure this out?

here it is.... the right tie rod bolt is hitting the power steering tube....by adding the extra washer it turned the tie rod bracket out and
away from the tubing.....(you did put the washer they sent you in between the rack unit and the tie rod bracket right?)

Yes I did, and I was contemplating extra washers...for over $1100.00, I wouldn't have expected this.
Thank you very much for your help. I' ll get after it.
By the way, no need to replay to my other note to you; but it may be helpfull to others.

they said it was the rack and pinion remanufacturer who supplied the hoses and some may be different....... i had to dimple my headers pretty good also.....but the steering is wonderful.....good luck....if you have other questions let me know....
What 'tubing' you al referring to??? the tubing from the power valving to the cylinder on the other end of the rack??? about the ONLY thing I can logically referr to,....and in that case, it's just typical brake tubing, nothing to get upset about, bend it outta the way for christsakes....

yes thats the tubing...problem is its right at the 90* bend where it attaches to the rack.....its almost too short to bend.

Well, I have to admit I have examined only one Steeroids install, and that by a friend down the road a piece, and so it looked fine to me....and seemed to work well without much problems....
MY rack install on the other hand was done by me on my own, and so it's a total differant install, and never had any line problems that I recall, though I may well have just bent them outta the way without thinking about it much...
I looked at that Flaming River rear steer rack there, and I seriously doubt it would fit into a shark.....much too wide from tip to tip, and that tie rod length would be so short the bump steer would be horrendous, ....much worse than now,....
I had some experiences with that setup using a Taurus rack when I was messing with doing my install about 4 years ago...
My Steeroids install went off without a serious hitch. No need for additional washers or bending of tubes.
I did have to ream out the power steering pump hose to make it fit over the pump nipple, and I had to grind the paint off the steering shaft so it would fit into the ujoint assembly...but I hardly consider these to be serious issues.
For some reason, the install seems to be easier in late-model C3's than early ones. With regards to fitment issues, I think it has to do more with the *very* loose tolerances these cars had when originally manufactured than the Steeroids kit itself.
Finally, I'd recommend the Steeroids kit over the Flaming River one. This is because the Steeroids product has been on the market for a few years and they've had time to iron out most of the bugs. The Flaming River kit is a *new* product...and you may find yourself doing some unintended R&D work for them!

What size washers?
The reason being, is that I plan on doing this in the near future and I'm gonna have a shop put it in. I'm a novice, so I just wanna make sure it gets done right. Also, when you guys do this, do you go ahead and replace the pump? I was thinking of going ahead and replacing it while I'm at it, what pump should I get?
thanks
no I don't think its mandatory....just depends on how tight that last bend is in the power steering tube. its quite possible that some have a tighter bend and are shorter so you wouldn't have the problem. When i spoke witht the engineers at Steeroids i was the first one encountering this problem. I found the washer at the Home Depot in the Metric bins....the Metric washer was the correct diameter both internally and externally...with the Regular SAE sizes the external diameter was too big. They also sent me the correct washer, but i couldn't wait.
Would it be a good idea to go ahead and replace the PS pump?
It isn't necessary unless your pump is having problems. That said, speed direct does sell a PS pump that they say is specifically tuned for steeroids. They claim that it improves feel a little bit, although I don't know if anyone's actually compared it with the stock pump (I don't like relying on marketing claims).

Do you have any pics of the installed Steeroids setup and where you had to put the washers?
thanks, I'll probably go with the Steeroids setup. When I do this, is there anything else that I should replace? Would it be a good idea to go ahead and replace the PS pump?
thanks
just open the steeroids box and find the washers and take them with you to Home Depot. the reason the Metric washers work is that they have a smaller external diameter for the right size internal diameter..
its the two bolts in the center of the bracket, the washers go between the bracket and the rack and pinion unit

and this is the problem, this was with the original pwr steering tubing that was too long...

this was not a real issue and i love my steeroids....
