Ok, I guess I'll just have to stick with the Performer non-airgap.
Get a can of playdough, form into a ball and put it on the front of the air cleaner, slam the hood, raise the hood and measure the height of the playdough. Air Gap RPM and Performer RPM are the same height, 1.050" taller than stock. If you have that much clearance it will fit.

I will try that. Just have to go to Toys-R-Us and get some playdough now!
Should maybe clarify, when I originally fitted the Airgap I did have it under the hood with a drop base but a very thin filter, at the time I tried to get one of those K&N lids but they were hard to come by over here in the UK then.
The problem I had was that I felt the motor just wasn't giving it everything, from a run on a chassis dyno with the old set-up then a return run with the scoop, the engine found 20hp and that was with relatively hot air in an enclosed bay in the shop where the dyno was, might be a bit more in nice cold air driving on the open road.
