Default Do I have to pull out the dash?

I bought a replacement dash wiring harness for my '76. Do I have to pull out the dash to install it, or is it possible to thread the wiring through with the dash in place? Any experiences, suggestions, etc. would be very welcome.

I just had mine out; you must pull the dash. This is a very flustrating job expecially if you have a.c. How did the engineers back then disign such tight fits on every component.

I was afraid that I would have to pull out the dash. I have the Haynes C3 manual that has a description for this chore. Any pointers or tricks to make this job easier?

I think the hardest part is the two nuts that attach the lower center gauge console to the shift console. Replace the two lower studs on the gauge console with longer ones and use wing nuts, flat and lock washers when reassembling. I think you can leave the top dash on, the passenger side comes off easy. Be carefull not to break the center guage console. Lower the steering wheel column by removing the two bolts near the aux. headliight/wiper door switch. The wire harness is self explanitory. I don't think you can hook it up incorrectly. All the light bulb recepticals are marked. Just make sure you rout the wiring the same as the factory did. It turns out to be a very tight fit. Take note of the vacuum lines, don't leave any unhooked or pinched. This is a good time to replace the heater core, clean all the air ducts, etc.
