Default Engine oil

I own 1979 Corvette which was bought in U.S. and taken to Europe. The engine L-82 has 150 000 miles on it.
My question is what oil is proper for this engine (SAE, API ratings)?

In European market Petro Canada oil is available. Do you know this brand, have any experience???

Not to hijack, but related:

As an engine gets higher in miles (150k+), is it beneficial to go "up" in viscosity (e.g. 20w-50) or down (5w-20)?

Back in '79, API SE would have been the oil to use. So anything with SE or higher (SF, SG, SH, SL, etc.) will be suitable.

The higher the mileage, the thicker the oil; ie, 20w50. (To keep it from leaking everywhere quickly!)
