The inside heater control is not sending vaccum to my heater valve that is in the heater hose to shut my heat off is there a easy fix? Now have the heater valve pluged to one of my carb.vaccum ports to keep it off.
Mine was the same. I installed a manual shut off on the coolent line to the heater core. Close the valve in the spring, open it in the fall. Do a search, it has been discussed frequently. Buy the parts at Home Depot. I only did the line to the core, but some people put valve on the both lines.
You can fix the control valve for near nothing. Under the control on the console, you will find the valve. Remove just the valve with the lines. You will find a white plastic rivet. It will be broken. Remove the remains and replace with a soft aluminum pop rivet of the same size and a small washer. Be careful when snapping the rivet to not put too much pressure on the valve. If it feels like it is getting too tight, just cut the rivet tail off. You could also use a small screw and nut if you add a little lock tight or lock nut to hold it. Reinstall and it will be as good as new.
Thanks wombvette, just last weekend I switched out the valve for manual shut off. Think I will try your fix this weekend. I have everything on the car working except that and would really like to have it work to. Thanks again jw
Help! tried what wombvette said tonight and still no vacuum? The plastic rivet was broke and i used a small screw and nut with lock-tite. I tightened it untill the spring washer was allmost compressed but still do not have vacuum to the shut off valve?? Any other ideas?
It is a pretty simple deal. There is a line coming in and there are several going out. The one coming in is the supply. You need to check this to make sure vacuum is getting to the switch. The switch just distributes it out where needed. If you have it incoming, then check for switch operation and outgoing lines.
The other thing you should check is that all the tracks in the rotary valve are clean and clear. The same goes for the ports comming out of the valve. They sometimes get clogged with dirt or corrosion.
Could anyone tell me what vacuum line is the supply line to the heater switch and where it originates at in the engine compartment? My switch has 5 hoses,black/wht stripe/grn stripe/blu stripe/and forget now what the other two were. If i knew which one was the supply line in the engine compartment thought i could hook up a vacuum pump to it and be able to work the switch without the noise of the engine and tell a little better whats going where.
Thanks carl, printing it now then heading out to the garage and try ti figure it out. Think i might not be getting vacuum in to the switch let you know what i find.
i made a little ''jumper'' out of a little plastic coulping that you would use to splice a vaccume line toghter with,i took the feed vaccume line off the rotary vaccume switch- it did not have suction ,,so i ran a temp, test line, then i put the coulping into the line and one at a time i un plugged the vaccume lines with the color tracers on them and fed them vacume ''by hand'' and observed the actuators that they operated, i dont know how it operates the valve your talking about, because i wasnt checking for that(what your checking for) in my case my actuators were not working -my problem was in the solid black line ,,the feed was pinched off from when bubba installed the radio,,,shutting down the entire vaccume system,,when i tested i ran a temp vaccume source over the fender from the engine compartmnt where i tapped into vaccume
