I think a T5 electronic has a VSS output that can be converted to a mechanical cable drive. Unfortunately it is about $300. It is a servo drive that runs the tach cable from the VSS output. If you are interested in going this route, email me and I will find the name of the company.
If you would like to stay all mechanical. Is there a T5 tailshaft housing that you could swap that has a mechanical drive? Maybe from an eary Mustang or Turbo Coupe. Now that I think about it, the early Camaro T5's were mechanical. I don't think the Camaro went electric until 89 or 90.
