Default Bubba and half shafts

Last night we began degreasing and powerwashing my 69 rear end for a planned rebuild. While powerwashing the half shafts and differential, I noticed that the half shafts are different sizes!!! The left shaft appears to be 2 1/2" and the right seems to be a 3" in diameter.

Obviously, the right shaft was replaced at some point prior to my purchasing the car. My mechanic and I debated the issues that might arise from two different shafts being installed (unbalanced???). From my stand point, I will need to drive the car to determine if there is any noticable difference. Has anyone encountered this before?

It wasn't a problem for my 71 to go 10 years with a 2.25 and a 2.5. If you want to install a 2.5 to match, email me for a deal.

Actually, I have a pair of new shafts (purchased from Van Steel) that will be going in once everything has been cleaned up. But thanks for your offer.

As you mentioned, I suspect that there was no issue, just sorta surprised to see it.

I actually remember a thread of a forum member posting a pic of his car with 2 different size half shafts...

That was a while ago... (probably 1 - 2 years)

The 75+ and service replacements were 3" and the 63-74 were 2.5" If I recall correctly. You shouldn't have a problem but check the yoke area to see if they were crushed when Bubba replaced the joints years ago.

I hope to have the old parts out on Saturday. We will pull the differential (mechanic calls it the "ham") and give everything a good once over. Thanks.
