Cooling Temp Sending Unit and Spark Plug wires
I just got my car back from being painted and the motor being torn apart looking for a squeal. It's a 1971 vert. I noticed the temperature gauge not working right. I looked to see if it was hooked to the engine, and it wasn't. I hooked it up and now the needle sits at 3 o'clock and jumps up and down as the motor lopes at idle. What is causing this? Also, I have a set of hooker headers on it. However, the spark plug wires are straight boots which will sometimes touch the headers and make the motor skip. I know I need either a 45 or 90 degree set. What set would you recommend? Thanks for the help.

So, what was done to the motor? You state that "the motor was torn apart" and "a lot of work done to my motor". Did this include new heads? Perhaps, the temp sending unit was changed out as well and now it doesn't match the gauge. If you have aftermarket heads, odds are the temp sending uing is a 3/8" NPT where the stock one was 1/2" NPT.
