Default Hood Alignment bumpers

I got a new set of hood alignment bumpers for my 1980, but they present more questions than they answer.

I looked in the A.I.M. and could not find where the install was listed.
These have a little rubbler lip that hooks under the fender edge where they mount. They also have a metal clip with a hole in them that looks like they would screw in place. No where on the fender lips do I see any holes to match these up to. My car did not come with any bumpers for the hood when I got it, so I can't go by the original locations.

Can someone measure and list where these 4 bumpers are supposed to go? Also, any pictures may help.

Thanks.

Edit: to add picture.

My understanding is that the bummpers were added only as required to level the hood.

Yep, that's whey I bought them. My hood sits down below the top edge of the side fenders in some places. Looks like crap.

I've never seen the type pictured. Mine are sort of trapazoid shaped and fit into the drain gutter of the inner fender. Then the height is shaved to suit.

If you have a assembly manual for your year car they give you the measurments where they mount.

I agree also. The ones I bought have double sided tape rather than a bracket, and the shape is a little different. Perhaps this is unique to a 80...but I don't think so.
You place two on each side in the gutter, one on end and the other on it's side. Move around until the hood/fender line up well then tape/glue in place.

Yes, these are "1980-82" only parts. The little rubber piece clips over the gutter and the metal piece looks like it should have a screw that goes into the side of the fender. Problem is I have no holes there now to show where these were supposed to have been.

I looked through the A.I.M. and I see no mention of them.

Same for a 78....and trim the height if they are too tall. cource sandpaper works well....before final sticking them down.

OK -- let me add this:

If you have these on your 1980-1982 Corvette, and you know where they are supposed to go, then you can answer.

I already said that I did not see them in the A.I.M and I get a response saying to look there.

I posted that they were 1980-1982 only items and I get 5 answers from owners of other years saying "those don't look like mine, but here is how mine work".

I know you may have to trim them to get the hood lined up right. I just want to know where the factory location for these are. I didn't think that it was that hard of a question. It's like asking about a problem with a 454 and getting someone's answer about how a 302 is better. Sorry to bitch - but please, just the answers and not a bunch of NON-ANSWERS.

Thank you !

Going to have to call them. I don't have any holes on the fender that they would bolt into. THAT is the great mystery.

Just in case you aren't a member Brian here are the posts...

I have a very early 1980 #2800, 11000 mile original car. I have a question concerning the four rubber allignment bumpers located in the rain rails of the hood opening. This item is not shown in the aasmbly manual or any other place I have looked. Everybody's repro shows the bumpers with a metal tab for holdown with a screw however my car is early and used what I believe are the 1979 version held down with adhesive. There are no holesin the rain rails. I am missing two and have purchased a set from Corvette Central. No one can tell me specifically where the should be positioned. Can anyone help with dimensions and or pictures.
Thanks
Wayne
The rubber bumpers are only necessary if you need to push the hood edge up level with the fender edge. There is no special location, only where they may be needed. Sometimes you need to shave some material off the bottom side to get the height you might need. Also, don't raise the hood edges near the windshield too much as you may bind the hood latches. Wouldn't want to break the release cable. I have 2 78's and a 79 and the bumpers are in no particular places, just where they are needed. And mine are all glued, I didn't think any year had them bolted. Mike
In looking at all my cars yesterday, I noticed that the first bumper from the front is about even with the carb wingnut. I say ABOUT. If you look at the rail you notice that towards the front of the opening there is a height difference. The bumpers would of course do no good in this area. Two of the cars had bumpers about 3 or 4 inches from the end of the rail near the wiper opening. One had on just one side. In 3 examples on the drivers side;1 car had first block even with front of master cylinder, 2nd car was even with front of power brake booster, 3rd car near back edge of master cylinder. 1 car had 3 on one side, one car had 2 two inches apart and none near the wipers. I'm sure this is more info than you need but like I said above, they go where they're needed. Put them in without glue so you can move them around after seeing how the hood closes. Mike

I have two 1980's which are both low mileage original cars.
They both have two rectanglar shaped bumpers, one on
each side of the top edge of the firewall. Bumpers are
located adjacent to the hood latches. There are no holes
on the sides of the fenders where the bumpers you pictured
would mount.

A number of years ago I purchased some of these bumpers also, thinking that they were missing.

On a number of the corvette dealer websites they show the engine
compartments of the cars for sale. You may be able to see the
bumpers you purchased on one of these cars. Even though they are
listed for 1980-82's, they may only have been used on the 81-82's.

Here is such a picture:

I called and asked a buddy (DesertDawg) about his 1982. His car does not have any. He says he does have a hole in the same place as the picture above. They are both Collector Editions so at least those 2 match.

Well hell.

From what I can tell is that most of the factory ones went out with glue. They were randomly placed as needed per car.

These new ones with the metal bracket must be an upgrade as the glued ones seem to fall off.

Since it doesn't look like there is a place they are "supposed to be at" I will just do the trial and error and make the damn things work.

I only worry about where they belong so I don't blow my NCRS status.

There is no set spot, they only go where you need them. You do like the factory and drill a hole to mount them, if needed.
