I was getting a very loud popping maybe once every three or four times I took the 81 out on the road. The sound was similiar to a very large rock hitting your windshield at high speeds, because it is Deafening. Sounds like the car is about to blow up.
Someone said that maybe my heat riser valve is getting stuck and then popping, and I couldn't think of any other Problem.
If i disconnected the Vacuum operated Heat riser and plugged up the hose would anything go wrong? I'm assuming I have a vacuum leak somewhere in that valve.

The only noise you'll hear from a heat riser is a rattle, when the thing gets worn out and has alot of play in it. It won't make that noise you describe.
On the other hand, a bad divertor valve on the smog pump system would cause exhaust explosions on deceleration.
