Am I the only one who's had problems with the lower mounting bracket for the R4 A/C compressor? It seems like it's almost a quarter-inch out of alignment between the exhaust manifold and the hole where the bolt goes into the front of the head.
Oh well...guess I'll just break out an angle grinder and fix all that!

Who said a head swap was simple?
And I thought I was the only one!!!
What I did was to dress the surface that goes against the front of the head. It only took a little bit to get it right. I bought a NOS gm bracket to replace my broken original and the machining was different on the replacement causing the poor fit.
Which bracket mounting are you refering to? Where it bolts to the front of the head or where it bolts over the exhaust stud? The side that bolts to the front will line up....but it has to be on under the other bracket....I had many problems with that bracket as well and used a spacer for the bolt to the header.
The problem was that the part that bolts to the exhaust manifold didn't go in far enough to allow me to bolt it to the head accessory hole. So I ground down the flange where it bolts to the manifold...and voila! It bolts at the front of the head just fine!
Apparently, everyone gets a slightly different form of grief on this one...
