Default Digital Gauges

Anyone running aftermarket Digital gauges in their shark?

After pricing out all the analog gauges etc and then seeing these digital "kits" that are direct fit for the C3 The price ends up being cheaper for the digital setup. And appears to be a somewhat easier install, not that the analog would be overly difficult. These are the ones I am looking at.

I would love the Dakota Digital setup but a grand is a bit overpriced IMHO.

they look cool, not my choice as I'd go analog, but they'd look cool after they're in.

I just figure for the price, they would be different from what alot of others are doing, as long as they do the job right and don't fail after 15 minutes of use.

I will go analog if I get bad responses to this. I am not about to throw out 500 bux if the setup sux ***.

I have the dakotas - I went with them because their kit is almost fully integrated - and I like the way they look.

The Tach/Speedo have fully functional turn signal indicators, high beam, e-brake indicator, etc. The Nordskogs did not.

With the Dakotas you will lose your seat belt push button and the brake warning light. Nordskogs you wont.

The dakota kit sends you all the necessary sending units making installation a breeze (EXCEPT that you still have to take the dash apart!!! )

also the 0-60 thing is fun on the street (havent even tried the 1/4 mile)

Speedo calibration is easy too - if you change wheels/tires it doesnt matter.

See my photos....

Oh also another thing is that Dakota requires you to send them your bezel and tach/speedo housings. It takes 2 months to get everything back. You will see why when you get them back - everything is cleanly mounted and enclosed - they probably require it to protect themselves against warranty claims from bubba installations..

I wish they offerd a "lower end" setup because I REALLY like the way they look. 2 MONTHS?!?!? good lord, but for quality work I am sure it is worth it.

who knows, maybe I will just try to fix my stock gauges for now, get what I need done on the car and save that setup for a x-mas/birfday gift from the family LOL

I just went with Autometer Ultralites.... not because I don't like the Nordskog's (I do), but because I wanted to keep brushed aluminum and carbon fiber as the interior theme.

I have a full set of the nordskogs with a VSS convertor. Never used or installed if anyone is interested. I will never use them, well at least not on this car. They are pretty cool looking though. I liked them better than the Dakota's because I could choose the digital color. The ones I have are red. I won't give them away, but if a forum member is interested, I will make a deal. Was going to E Bay them, but it is a PIA...

Also have a full stock center guage cluster.. 78-82... with complete working circuit board with new quartz clock. Pioneer supertuner 45w X4 Missing upper light bulb and 2 on the back panel. I removed the a/c vents as I reused them in my project.. (they are only about 15 bucks anyway.)

Actually have a '74 guage cluster as well. Actually just a pack rat. Keep tons of parts.. Anyway.. maybe I will post in for sale .. anyone interested in clusters.. email me... I can send pics as well. Please e mail though..

The Dakotas seem to be worth the extra expense. They do come with everything you need to get the job done.

With that kit that comes from nordskog for the $500 does that include the speedo and tach aswell as all the other gauges? also does anyone have a picture of the speedo and tach, i love the gauges. that will deffinetly be a mod coming up here soon. Thanks again.

I have the Nordskogs digitals in my 79
I like them very much. Installation is straight forward but you do have to buy the sending unit for the speedo.

I have the Nordskogs too (I think there's some pics in my yahoo briefcase). I like the visibility, which is good even in daylight. The reason I didn't go with Autolites is the fact that you have to rig up turn signals, bright indicator, etc. With the Skogs, all the indicators are in the tach and speedo, just like the originals. Also, all senders are included, except for the speedo sender if you have a non-electronic tranny. The speedo also has 0-60, 1/4 mile and other neat stuff I never use.

Now for the bad. My speedo developed a problem after 3 minutes of use. One of the lines of LEDs in the odometer went out. Nordskog promptly replaced it. After about 4 months, the same thing happened. I ignored it for a couple of months until the oil pressure readout started doing crazy things, then eventually went out altogether. I called Skog, and after about 10 minutes of application and installation questions, they said an entire set would be sent to me. It got here last month but I haven't raised the gumption to tear out the dash again. I might get to it....eventually....

Can I recommend Skogs to a potential buyer? Dunno cause it seems everything aftermarket I buy nowadays has some problem associated with it. It might just be me....or it might not...
