Default c5 frame under a c3 body..

How hard is it to modify a c5 frame to bolt a c3 body onto? What needs to be done?

It's an interesting concept...pretty major undertaking I would think.

That's really slick, but I don't know that I would call it a C5 frame with a C3 body. More of a custom tube frame with a C5 drivetrain...although it says it's a ZZ502 crate motor..

You couldn't do a C3 body directly on a C5 chassis, the wheel base is much longer on a C5. That link posted above uses a custom tube frame then bolts on the C5 suspension. I think that's as close as you'll get for now.

I saw a C1 (62) on a C5 chassis at Bloomington in '03. It was pretty cool.

The wheelbase issue doesnt seem like much of a problem. The frame and torque tube could always be shortened. Im just wondering about everything else.

Was it Maroon with a tan interior? if so I saw it and talked to the guy at Hot August Nights. He did a real nice job, digital gauges in the original pods, lots of upgrades that took on a factory appearence.

The Philadelphia Motorsports setup is definitely cool...gotta be big bucks, though.

Yep, times like these I wish I had the shop (and skill) to do something like that.

The one I saw was red with a tan (I think) interior. It had a C5 dash molded in. It was at one on the Vendors booth.

I saw the maroon one too on the field. It was very well done also.

holy crap, that is alot of cake!! Then add in the cost of the C5 running gear THEN the cost of the C3 body etc. You would be better off buying a C5 and a C3 and enjoying the hell outta both!!

C5's don't have "frames". That silver tube down the center in the picture is as much "frame" as there is. And that is just a torque tube. The floorpan/body is the support etc....

Yes they do. The frame is not easily separable from the body, but there is a full frame in there, the body is just built onto it.

That is definately a frame, the only difference is the bird cage is built into it. Most of that extra crap can easily be cut off to resemble a traditional frame, or so it seems....

Default C3 Body on a C5 Frame

We looked at this concept three years ago, but nixed it. The C3 tunnel is not big enough for the center tube in the C5. If the tunnel is widened, then the seats would have to be modified to fit into less space. Body width is another problem for the wheels; both the front and rear tracks would have to be decreased to get the wheels inside the fenders. To get it to work would take lots of fabrication of either the C3 body or the C5 frame and suspension; probably a bunch of both. These are just for starters. As we went through it, the mountain got steeper.
