I'm trying to decide if I should use an Edelbrock RPM or a Weiand stealth on my 72 rebuild.
Here are some basic numbers for the comparison
9.5:1 CR
280 duration comp cam
993 heads with 2.02 intake/1.6 exhaust valves
I plan on using the stock quadrajet for now, plan on upgrading to a demon with mechanical secondaries later.
Also using original exhaust manifolds for the moment until I can save up a little more cash for some nice hooker super comp long tube headers.
I'd use a Torker II with your setup. If you had more compression and cam I'd opt for a Victor Jr. I have run single plane manifolds since 1977 and over 140,000 miles.
What kind of drop base air cleaner should i go with?
Any suggestions?
Does anyone have the edelbrock rpm with a quadrajet and a dropbase that actually is below the stock hood?

LOSTPATROLMAN, mike set me up with a MOROSO drop base air cleaner that was sweet......
if you put the L-86 or whatever hood on would that work too because i was conteplating an edelbrock rpm also in my '78 with an edelbrock 650 somethin carb [ havnt decided yet] but i seriously thing it wont fit. i was also thinking about just having a custom hood made to get ram air flowin so that i wont lost hp from having a smaller intake am i correct about that?

If you are going to use a quadrajet you will have to use a performer or Weiand with a spread bore type mounting flange or use an adapter which will add an additional inch or more...
The edelbrock 7104 is set up with the spread bore bolt pattern...I guess I'd like to know if I use that intake, with my original Q-jet carb will the original dual snorkle air cleaner I have still fit underneath the hood? I really like that air cleaner, it looks sharp and the chrome on it seems a lot nicer then the stuff in stores today. Do you have any (or does anybody else for that matter) experience with this type of set up?
I do have the stock L-48 hood.
