Carfax question?

Carfax question?
I went to my local Ca DMV to get a duplicate title and asked about getting a record of previous owners. They said that they had no way to do it and suggested using Carfax. Does Carfax give a list of all owners and if so can some one help me with this? I am guite use of all but the first owners.

CarFax can only go back to a certain year I think it is 80 or 81. Some states BMV's go back many years my 87 I went all the way back to the delivery in New Jersey. In MO and KS I traced my 67 Camaro to the delivery. AZ says they can only go back 10 years. Every state is different. Good Luck! Next time ask them if they can do a "title search"?

I traced my 76 Vette as far back as 81 in Missouri. 1981 was when it was brought in from another state. They had to order microfilm or something, so Im now waiting to find out what state it came from. then I'll contact their DMV and get the same from them. 
Carfax won't show owner information though. And unless you have a legal reason, the DMV will only give you Title number, issue date and purchase date.

If using Carfax, the vin must have at least 17 characters I think. The 80 I have only has 13, so I know it won't go back further than 80. I am not sure when 17 characters were put into use, I think it was 81 or 82. FYI.
