Default Block drilling

I had to drill out some water passages last night on my 454. Block is still in the car (rest of engine is all a part). No matter how careful I was with the removing the drill shavings.....I know a bunch of metal went into the water jackets. Is this going to cause any problems? I don't see how I can flush them out.

If the block is still in the car there is not much you can do besides flushing with as much pressure as possible. The fillings will bottom out somewhere and not bother you.

When we fixture a block for static/dyno testing gaskets we end up with drill shavings in all types of places. If you have your water pump off you will be able to blow/flush those shavings out the front of the block through those w/p ports. If you don't have the w/p removed then at least remove the lower hose and flush. Your trying to get out the majority of the shavings. Otherwise the tiny amount left over will not hurt the cooling system.

Have fun,

Default Should be ok

A few shavings won't be a problem. I had to replace a freeze plug many years ago on an in car engine. There were massive shavings in the head that lead to the bad freeze plug. The car had 22,000 miles and was 1 year old. After replacing the freeze plug I took the car to a radiator shop. They pulled the thermostat and pressure flushed the engine. The engine then went 180,000 more miles with nothing but valve cover leakage repairs.

I would say if you are really concerned take it and have it pressure flushed at a good radiator shop. 99 Nassau Blue
