Anyone know what will remove the old adhesive from the seat backs and kick panels where the carpet pieces were affixed? I'm going to paint my seat buckets and kick panels and then install new carpet pieces. I think the 79-82's were like this. The problem is finding something that won't attack the plastic parts.
WD-40 and you can try lighter fluid if you don't want the oil mess. Test an area first for the lighter fluid, I use it for removing price stickers on packages. Firat saw it used at Goodwill to remove old stickers from book jackets and paperbacks.
Hi,
I did the same job on my 82. I don't remember that there was too much glue residue on the plastic kick panels and seat shells. I scraped off the excess old glue, re-sprayed the plastic parts and then glued the new carpet parts on. Eveything held on very well and that was a few years ago. When using the 3M spray adhesive make sure you have alot of ventilation, that stuff is nasty!
Good luck,
Tom
Thanks for the ideas guys. I tried lighter fluid and alcohol and neither worked. The wd40 worked better but I'm concerned about cleaning the residue off that it leaves.I might have problems in the areas that I want to paint. Think I'll try the 3M stuff tomorrow and do some scraping.
