well, i replaced my upper and lower control arm bushings and ball joints, replaced all four shocks, and replaced the rear spring and end bushings and bolts. i made sure the front springs went in their spring pads correctly and inspected the rear strut rod bushings. the problem is when i hit these virginia interstate speedbumps (expansion joints) or small irregularities in the pavement, i get a bit of a bang just like i would get if i jumped my jeep. any suggestions? this car is the most rough riding vette i have ever owned.....and i have owned 8 ov them ranging from a 73 to a 94.
Perhaps your new shocks are much stiffer than your old ones and that is what you are feeling. Are they adjustable? If so soften them up some and see if that helps.
Get --rid of the azone shocks and get some Bilstein shocks-----I did the same thing (bought azone shocks)---I total rebuild the front and rear--put new Bilstein shocks on......WHAT a DIFFERENCE in the RIDE!!!!!!
Hard to describe the difference in the Gas-A-Just vs the Bilsteins. If you have not ever tried them you would not easily understand it. The Bilsteins ride is firm but nice as compared to the cheaper shocks. The best way to compare them is by the price. If the Gas-A-Justs cost what they do then the Bielsteins ride like 3x better for about 3x the cost. That is about the best way to describe it.
I recently rebuilt the front end of my '82, with 550 lb/in. springs cut 1/2 coil and Bilstein Sports, and the ride and rebound control is just "right", not too harsh. And the handling is super! You should be able to pick up a set of 4 from a supporting vendor for under $300.
I also run Bilstein Sports on my C5 w/ Z06 Springs and Sways and they rock! Highly recommended and worth the extra $$$!!
