Default Engine swap

I don't know if it's a little tired, or if the power/weight ratio of the L-48 in a big vette sucks, but I decided to put another engine in my 1978. I will still hang onto the original L-48 because I know when I sell someday, someone might care about original equipment. I have a friend with a rebuilt 350 (with performance cam, intake, heads, etc.) that cranks out about 290 HP and has 1500 miles on it. He just bought a house and said he'd give me the engine for $200.

Anyhow, to the question: Can I slap any 350 SB into my 78 and expect the A/T bell housing and everything else to match up?

Thanks for your help!

yeah probably....if its a small block chevy?....the motor mounts should line up, the heads may or may not have accesory holes...look for them these are the holes the alt bracket etc. attach to....the flex plate may or may not be the same depends if its a one piece or two piece rear main seal, the bell housing bolts should line up, Can't think of any other issues....

I slapped a 350 4 bolt block out of a 85 Suburban into my 79. I didn't use anything else, just the block. I used Dart heads, the original motor mounts and flex plate.

I'll post some pics when I do it. I don't know if I'll do it this year, as there are only a few suitable Vette months in Connecticut and it IS running now...I might wait until this fall/winter but I wanted to snap up the motor anyhow.
