Default Starter motor dismantling

I'm waiting for my Haynes Manual to arrive but need to get the starter motor off. Does anyone have or know of instructions on how to do this on a 1980 C3 4Sp Manual? Something I could print out would be great!!!

To Remove the starter, UnHook the Battery behind drivers seat, Unbolt three wires on the back of starter, one might un plug. There is a bracket towards the front of the motor,If someone hasnt taken it off yet. and 2 bolts coming from the bottom to take out. It is a really easy task to do. Just remember to use jack stands when crawling under your cars.

Good Luck Larry

I have bought the Haynes and Chilton manuals for my cars just in case they might have some helpful information. In so many instances, their information is not helpful. In these manuals you might, for example, look up information as to "how to remove the oxygen sensors" etc. When you look up the appropiate section in the manual, you'll see an instruction ..."remove the oxygen sensor." Absolutely not helpful. (Unansered questions not addressed in these manauls.. where are the oxygen sensors, what do you have to do to access them..for instance drop the exhaust pipes?)

For a lot of detailed information as to how to remove, repair, replace, etc. I think this forum is the best point of contact to answer detailed questions.

Done it a few times...disconnect the neg. battery cable. Jack up right side (I remove front wheel, makes it ez to slide under...your call). Do Not remove wires now. Get a milk crate or wood blocks to support the starter (it's heavy), you want it at least 6" below the starter (you can raise the car up to clear). Take out the 2 bolts, there should be a plate holding the backside up. It won't fall, the nose should be in the inspection plate and the back is supported from the plate. 1 bolt is attached to the starter to plate, remove that bolt, you maybe able to swing the plate to one side, if not remove a bolt and swing plate away (Do Not remove plate). Now just pull down starter and leave it on the crate or blocks and now remove the wires. To put it back up, put it on the crate, rewire, then put the nose in first then swing the plate over the bolt, now that will support it while your lining up the bolts...
