I normally post in the C5 section, but have a friend with a problem with his 69 so was hoping to get some help.
Car is a 69 with a 427. Stock flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. There was a slight cleanup of the flywheel surface, but nothing big. The motor was just installed and hooked up. The problem is there is a ton of pedal movement before the clutch releases, and once the clutch starts coming off of the floor it engages. He has been told the throw out bearing he installed is the correct one, but now has found out there may be more than one available for that year.
Can anyone provide information on which clutch assembly goes with which throw out bearing and where the problem with his current setup might lie?
Also, does the motor need to come out to change the clutch?
sounds like the clutch needs adjustment. should adjust rod length untill he has about 1 inch of pedal travel (at the top) untill the pedal starts to disengauge the clutch.
Is it a centerforce clutch? If so there are linkage issues that need to be adjusted. Not 100% sure on a BB but with SB you need an adjustable ball stud. You have to pull the tranny to replace the clutch.

Can't get there, the adjustment nut is at the end of travel.

I would suspect that the flywheel cleanup is the culprit. Even though it is only a small amount taken off it still pushes the whole assembly towards the engine. I have an adjustable ball stud that I use now. I setup everything then took it apart and welded it so it would not loosen up. Been fine for the last two years now.
Beside the clutch pivot ball needeing adjustment, you might also loose adjustment by worn linkage.
Look at my clutch rod, 1/2 worn through at the pivot. ( new one beside old one ). This alone made about .400 of rod adjustment .
Flywheel resurfacing makes a bit, worn clutch etc.
