Default New track pic!

A friend found this pic of my car from last summer and just sent it to me. I like it and think it should be shown around!

A very nice image. Certainly worthy of desktop use.

What kind of times do you run with that thing?

well the story goes something like this.

I've always been a fan of Corvettes and I've been around drag racing for almost 27 years. My car is a numbers matching 1979 L-48 with a TH350, and it also has original paint. Now I know ya'll think I'm nuts for doing that to a rather original car, I'm sorry, but thats the deal.

Engine wise, like i said its the original L-48 which I've put an Edelbrock Performer cam and intake. Rings and bottom end have never been touched. Carb is stock quadrajet (Tweaked by Lars). Distributor is stock Gm with some help from an MSD-6AL. It isn't a world beater but it sure is a ton of fun. This car is street driven about 5000 km per year.

Last year I worked the tranny over and added a TCI Streetfighter converter with about 3200 stall.

That did improve the launch considerably however because its just not a powerful package best et has been 13.96 at 98 mph.

How, I'm in the process of building a sweet big block for the car and hope to end up with about 425-450 horsepower on pump gas. And with any luck will drop my times down even more. It's no small task moving a car like this from small block to big block especially when it spends 6 months a year in storage.

Thanks for askin

Not at-all:
these cars were MADE to go-racing, even-if only a 1/4-mile at a time!

What rear-gear are you running?

Those appear to be 28"-29" Hoosiers yer wringing-out, and I turn 'just' 5800 RPM with 28" Eagles and 4.10s at 105+ MPH:
have you experienced any/many IRS problems with those slicks?

I'll be happier with the original engine under the bench and the Big Block makin its power. I'm of the opinion they should be drivin wide open and the drag strip is the best place for that,

Considering the stock engine... Are the slicks really necessary (other than for good looks )?? Couldn't imagine that you'd have a traction problem on street tires

Actually the slicks are important. The times are like 2/10ths better and they're all in the 60ft. Mph has remained the same but with the converter and slicks the launch has been sweeter for sure. Just lookin for that little whomp from the BBC. As for the rear diff standing up to it, I guess we'll have to see, its got 3;55's back there and I change the fluid regularly and its been doing just fine.
